For my final year project at IADT I made a historical diorama of the factual event, "The Siege of Rochester 1215 CE". I love history and going to museums and so the idea of doing a historical diorama was very interesting to me. I wanted to make it educational by showing the event, and how a typical early 13th century medieval siege would look, and the methods used, while also making it captivating through the aesthetic and action within. The fabrication process furthered upon what I learnt through my course and exposed me to many important things to do with modelmaking. The soldiers were all made digitally, 3D printed and then painted. The making of the terrain was my first try at such a project. There is much learning and experimentation to be done with regards to making it more realistic, the same goes for the painting of the walls and bridge. For the features of the diorama I had to do deep research and also got in contact with two historians so that it can be said it is all fairly historically accurate.The project required a lot of work and continual learning but was one that was very worthwhile and exciting at parts and made me realize better that I would like to go down a path that incorporates both history and art.
