Currently in my work I am exploring Ireland’s housing crisis using photography and text-based work. As a young adult in Ireland emigration feels inevitable and through my work, I would like to explore Ireland’s derelict and vacant spaces as a result of the housing crisis. Within this work I can also reclaim lost parts of the Irish language. I currently use screen-printing for my text-based work, and I have been exploring bookmaking to explore this work further and archive my work. The socio-political landscapes I am documenting are local to me and predominantly working-class areas. I am specifically documenting the irony and classism of the use of steel to board up vacant council housing during a housing crisis. Using photography and installation I confront the viewer with these landscapes and derelict spaces they normally would not be faced with.
