I’m a writer/director from Kildare and a recent graduate of the National Film School at IADT, where I majored in directing and minored in sound. I’m very interested in exploring stories of complicated male sexuality and depicting personal, intimate narratives, especially those in the psychological horror genre. My graduate film 'AMŒBA' is a psycho-sexual horror that viscerally explores the destructive power of unrequited infatuation:"After surviving a brain eating parasite, Levi, a young queer man, is invited to his secondary school crush Roan's house for the weekend. Waking from an intoxicated night of reconnecting, Levi becomes convinced Roan kissed him. As Levi seeks the truth of what happened, his grip on reality loosens."It’s a passion project 4 years in the making, fuelled by the emotions of frustration, remorse and hysteria that I felt in reaction to the personal experiences that inspired elements of the story. In terms of the filmmaking, I was very inspired by the films ‘Perfect Blue’ (Satoshi Kon, 1997), ‘Tom at the Farm’ (Xavier Dolan, 2014), ‘Don’t Look Now’ (Nicolas Roeg, 1973) and ‘Fireworks’ (Kenneth Anger, 1947), as well as many, many more. With 'AMŒBA', I wanted to make something big, bold and ambitious. All of the craft that went into telling this surreal story went in supporting this aesthetic, from the experimental edit to the creative sound design to the radiant colour grade. I wanted 'AMŒBA' to be a film you'd either love or hate, but not something that you could watch and soon forget.
