VODKA FROM THE HOLY GRAIL My collection is inspired by the ambiguous concept of rituals. I started off by exploring the meticulous ceremonies associated with the catholic church. Baptism, communion, confirmation, weddings; and I was fascinated by the extravagance associated with these practices. This led me to look at my parents wedding album where I was inspired by the opulence of a catholic ceremony. These cultural traditions that my parents partook in were quite different to the current behaviours of my friends and I; getting all dolled up to go on the nightclub dancefloor. Upon wearing my mother's wedding corset, in the nightclub, I realised the similarities between these rituals, while feeling a vitality in their differences. Using my mother's wedding corset and the youthful implication of dressing down to dress up, I conceptualise a reimagined world where a nightclub wedding exists; a world where the opulence of a catholic ceremony can marry the beautiful vigour of Irelands youth. This utopian marriage inspired a collection of strong, regiment forms with bursts of chaos throughout; paying homage to the beauty of Irelands traditions, in whatever form they take.
