I’m interested in slow work that examines non precious, everyday material objects. I usemethods of disassembling to investigate these objects. Allowing them to take up space theytransform and reveal themselves in unfamiliar ways. Text is part of my practice formed inthe making, offering another dimension to the work that supports the space between theobjects. In October 2020 my mother died. Suddenly.Focusing on an old warmer she owned, this work attempts a conversation with thatsuddenness, the sense of presence that prevails and how tenuous connections make up ourown presence in this world. From its inception the objects’ materials have been chroniclinga connection with place, time and matter. Unpicking the garment shifts the materiality ofthings that escape into the world, this re-ordering in space and time presents perspectivesof the garment that were previously unseen.
