As an interdisciplinary artist, my practice is deeply rooted in the rich and diverse narratives of my hometown, Limerick. Inspired by the masterful techniques of Kehinde Wiley, I challenge societal injustices and stereotypes through my art, striving to empower communities and reimagine traditional portraiture to spotlight the resilience and distinctiveness of our people. My work transforms the canvas into a battlefield against biased narratives, using bold reinterpretations to elevate the vibrant essence of Limerick's people, often obscured by mainstream media. With a fervour echoing Wiley's defiance, I position the souls of Limerick in regal and heroic poses, deconstructing stereotypes and highlighting the unique qualities that define us. Initially infused with satire, my evolving narratives retain the potent sense of humour intrinsic to Limerick's identity. Through my art, I aim to reveal the authentic spirit of Limerick, capturing the essence of our community and confronting historical biases. My projects blend contemporary elements with traditional imagery, celebrating our city's diversity, resilience, and unity. By working closely with local communities, I weave together tradition and innovation through intimate interviews and immersive photography, reclaiming our narrative with authenticity and pride.
