Hi! My name is Kate Minogue, I'm an Illustrator & Designer from County Wexford Ireland with a keen interest in the visual development aspects of the animation pipeline. While studying for my BA in Animation at IADT Dun Laoghaire, I developed a deep love and respect for the art of visual storytelling. I find great joy and fulfilment in bringing worlds and stories to life on screen through collaboration with others as well as through personal projects. My primary role is in Layout & Background Design, but I also love dabbling in all kinds of visual development work including Character Design, Prop Design, Storyboarding, etc. My artwork is often inspired by the fantasy stories and folktales of my childhood. For example, in my most recent project I created a series of digital illustrations based on mythology from my native county surrounding The Banshee's Comb, as collected by local historian Michael Fortune in his book "The Folklore of Wexford". As children growing up, we were taught to be wary of any lost or discarded combs we happened to find outside as we were told that they belonged to the legendary Banshee spirit. According to myth, if someone was foolish enough to take a comb found outdoors, The Banshee would follow them home, where she would scream and bang at their doors, walls, and windows until the comb was returned to her. The only way you could safely return the comb to The Banshee was to hand it to her on the end of a pair of iron fire tongs, otherwise she would take your arm off along with the comb when she took it back. The illustrations I created are my interpretation of this tale as a horror/thriller in which a naïve girl accidentally invokes the wrath of the Banshee after stealing her comb. The work reflects my love of stories with mystical and macabre themes. I am excited to continue on learning to develop the artistic skills I've acquired during my studies at IADT within the industry and hope to be involved in creating more unique and inspiring projects in the future!
