My work portrays and celebrates the strength that comes from vulnerability. A Sexual Violence Survey by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) found that “only 5% of those that experience sexual violence as an adult have reported it to the police”. My intention is to spark conversations and shift societal perceptions of sexual violence in Ireland. By delving into uncomfortable topics, my work prompts viewers to re-asses their realities. Monoprinting is a process where each print is a one-off, capturing a moment that can never be replicated. I collected research pictures of myself to inform my work and constantly immersed myself in these images. This served as a reminder of my insecurities and forced me to confront my experience with sexual violence, allowing me to express raw emotion and authenticity in my work. By confronting this uncomfortable experience, I was able to reveal genuine strength found in vulnerability to the viewer.
