I work with painting and installation, stretching images on pierced and perforated canvas in spatial webs of hemp rope and weighted attachment. My work currently focuses on the symbols and philosophies of digital, historical, and local subcultural scenes.Once I've began painting a selected image my judgement of it's content is limited, I focus on form and tonal qualities using traditional techniques. The result is a fast-growing collection of over-exposed and intimately cropped compositions on loose canvas. My methods of grouping, assembling and installing these images are tactile extensions of the collage technique. This approach unlocks perspectives between disparate content, reconciling the internal world with the external while eliciting visceral sensations of tension and pressure. However challenging, seemingly illogical or morally ambiguous, the resulting composition is a step closer to finding the truth or redemptive meaning in the overwhelm of contemporary existence.
