This body of work explores religious iconography, places of worhsip and the phenomena of apparitions. Through the process of assembling objects, abstract painted elements and repurposing candle wax; I play with materiality to reimagine the concepts of faith. My pieces draws influences from various facets of faith, including places of worship, holy wells and altars. "How far do prayers go?" is an installation that combines floor and wall elements, crafted from candle wax gathered from a local church and textured painted fabric. I was greatly drawn to these materials and colours as they offered me personal freedom while painting and translating self expression. By repurposing melted and sculpted candle wax ; the piece visually documents hundreds of prayers in their inherent anonymity. Each wick, a symbol of an individual prayer, invites viewers to reconsider the worries, hopes and joys embedded in these sacred remnants. Through the installation, the ephemeral nature of faith and devotion is captured and given new life, allowing us to witness and reflect on the silent expressions of spirituality. In addition, I created standing draped pieces "Apparition" that expresses the abstract elements in faith and "Arch" displaying influences of the shapes of arch details found in the architecture and interiors of churches, including votive candle holders and stained glass.
