I am the third generation of furniture design/makers in my family and have always had a strong awareness of craft and design. However, it has been my studies (Furniture Design and Manufacturing at ATU) and travels that have shaped what I would like to contribute to contemporary craft and design. My interest is in the circularity of materials and function, while being conscious of environmental impact without compromising the design. My thesis project, the “Margaret 24” lounge chair, named after my late grandmother, has a minimalist ash wood frame, inspired by Danish Minimalism, and replaceable covers. The cast bronze handles if heated will expand and release from the ash and can be melted down into something new. The seat is a collection of scrap fabric from an upholstery factory quilted together. This piece represents the philosophy which guides my practice: three unique crafts presented in an elegant, contemporary, and sustainable way which has room to adapt.
