The project showcases the traditions and celebrations of Chinese New Year through a motion graphic video for people who are interested in Chinese culture and want to learn more about it. In showcasing the 15-day celebration, the Chinese community is shown how the days are celebrated and culturally rich. My motion graphic video highlights the various customs that mark the transition to the New Year as we are guided through the traditional Chinese calendar. We begin on New Year's Eve, showing the elaborate preparations of Spring Festival couplets and the warmth of a reunion dinner, where families come together. The first day of the New Year shows the joyful exchange of New Year's wishes and the tradition of giving and receiving red envelopes. The married daughter returns to her family on the second day of the New Year. It then goes on to show the unique traditional culture of the Malaysian Chinese called 'Yee Sang' which is believed to bring in good fortune and wealth to those who toss it up, the worship of the God of Heaven on the 8th day of the New Year, and the throwing of mandarin oranges at the Lantern Festival. In the end, it shows this year's zodiac sign, the Wooden Dragon, for the year 2024.
