My artwork tends to reflect my interest in nature and culture where ideas usually present themselves rather than looking. Ordinary things like seaweed on a seashore, broken brickwork on a wall, or urban street signage can be sources of inspiration. The concept of ‘making’ weaves its way as a common thread throughout my work. Knitting and embroidery have captured my heart and I am at my happiest surrounded by hand looms and yarn!
I love to hand dye recycled textiles and create colour palettes to interlace with techniques and processes learned. I play around with contrasts in textures, colours and patterns where sometimes they magically align themselves as new narratives.
In my current artwork, I connect with the cultural narrative of ‘making’ in the Liberties. This rich history in textile manufacturing woven into the very fabric of the community is my inspiration for a piece entitled ‘Made in the Liberties’.
