My work is a celebration of women and the feminist movement. Embroidery is a typical “woman’s task” that is incorporated throughout my work, reclaiming the stereotype while creating a female language in my paintings. I explore what it means to be a woman in today’s world through text, imagery and colour associated with feminism and womanhood.
I draw inspiration from women’s issues for my work, such as the #MeToo movement and the fight for equal rights. Iconography also plays a role in my practice. Representations of women through symbols associated with feminality can be seen in my work.
I belong to a generation of women who are not afraid to speak out and stand up against misogyny and the patriarchal system. I do this throughout my work by creating a dialogue in my paintings that I hope inspires and empowers women.
