Through my current work, inspired by the coastline, I’m focusing on liminal lines between the sea, land and sky as points of connection and transition. Place, belonging and environment are core factors influencing identity and wellbeing, which are inextricably intertwined with the natural world. I’m interested in how a visual, sensory experience and environment can alter our state of mind and wellbeing.
Using the vessel as a canvas to explore these thresholds it serves as a trigger and connector to nature and our place within it. Gathering local materials from the coastline and blending them within various clay bodies, slips and glazes, is an ongoing research and integral part of my work. Elements of form, texture and these materials appeal to our primordial senses evoking a grounding presence.
