When was the last time you told a story? Until the mid 20th century, Irish storytelling was a primary form of entertainment throughout the country, but in the last few decades it has faded into obscurity. Irish myths and folktales are now considered to be only for children, and the books for adults on the market often retell the same few stories, barely scratching the surface of this ancient tradition.As an illustrator, I am deeply inspired by this vast tradition of Irish storytelling and folklore. My work is focused on bringing this artform into the modern day, promoting the stories that we have forgotten to new generations. Through my practice, I blend illustration with live storytelling and performance, shining a light on the more obscure aspects of our folk traditions. I want to demonstrate that Irish mythology is filled with queerness, deviance and often horrific themes that should be celebrated, not shunned.
