I am a Belgian-Irish visual artist based in Dublin. My work is informed by fragmentation, zoom-ins, layers and tactility. By objects and stories that have replaced someone’s absence leaving traces behind. Examining my domestic archive made out of family albums, photographs, letters and everyday ‘safety’ objects. I am interested in the circulation of this material, bringing objects from the past into the present. My research exists in notebooks. It has become my visual language. Cropping, fragmenting, layering and assembling. Letting my research unfold and guide me, whilst honouring my slowness. My research lives within the gaps, pauses and silences created by distance. Its relationship to layering of time, memory and language within the context of the Irish diaspora. Within my most recent work I tried to understand the diaspora subjectivity of an Irish-Belgian family through writing, sounds and video. Artists such as Tako Taal and Jasleen Kaur have influenced me in making this work.
