I'm a Brazilian visual artist based in Dublin recently graduated from National College of Art and Design with a BA in Fine Art Media and now heading for the MA Masters in Arts and Social Action. I work with mixed media, photography, sculpture, poetry, videos, performance and any other art form that allows me to develop my practice. My videos explore feelings and interpretations related to the sense of belonging and identity with a poetic approach. I use my experiences, as well as my place of speech to translate these phenomena through words and gestures that translate the relationship between physical presence and emotions inherent to the state of being. I also propose to expand our senses to verbal and non-verbal communication through an immersion in the cultural dimensions of language. Also, experiencing the emotional impact of the words, sounds and messages becoming linguistic expressions that carry historical and personal values. The video Misstatement is an illustration of the Portuguese word ‘Saudade’, roughly translated as longing. It is based on my personal reflections on the feeling of longing in juxtaposition with the representation of its dimensions and how my body translates this sensation. Language appears as a bridge between the videos through loose words in English, which act as tangents to the poem and body language.
