This body of work explores the visual language that surrounds the Internet and symbols of digital culture as they continue to rapidly develop online. Through my intentional removal of context around my chosen references and found images, I am attempting to convey the absurdity of the contemporary world, particularly as a result of the Internet's effects on our perceptions of reality. My project title refers to a series of memes that simply state the ominous phrase: 'the fog is coming'. Users warn of a fog that will descend upon the Earth in the very near future, reflecting feelings of despair and paranoia towards the absurdity and inconceivability of certain aspects of contemporary life is a sinisterly vague way. Through a playful exploration of how we use humour online, I seek to reveal the ways that we deal with the awareness of the fog.
