My paintings frequently ask viewers for a suspension of disbelief. Surreal atmospheres help me explore how the figure can be complicated and what the limits of visual representation are. This inquiry results in intimate paintings characterized by their lively brushwork and energies that drift between controlled and chaotic, alluring and painful. While experimenting with paint, my work also looks at the narratives and potential images possible within a single painting. I am seeking a visceral form of expression that further reckons with the physicality of paint. To varying degrees, all of my paintings touch on themes of identity, home, tenderness, disquietude, and omen.
