I created the immersive sculptural artwork, For You, intending for the viewer to become an important relational part. I wanted it to serve as a visual reminder of the interdependence that exists between humans, the natural world and all the myriad of lifeforms within it. In our troubled times it aims to be a counterbalance, a refuge, and a sanctuary. I imagined a place for healing collective and personal grief, where hopes and wishes can form and eventually help transform our reality. The recycled plastic materials were manipulated by heating, folding, cutting, and stitching into organic forms. This process highlights the beauty, which can be found unexpectedly, in the mundane and discarded. Natural light is celebrated, and technological aspects are deliberately kept to a minimum. By the alteration of something as unattractive as plastic packaging, the artwork asks us in turn to shift our perceptions and tap into the healing powers of imagination. I am inspired by various contemporary artists, especially Emma Talbot and Celina Muldoon, who in their practices make similar enquires to mine. Their large-scale immersive artworks have functioned as important catalysts for my creative process. Historical illustrations and stained-glass windows by Harry Clarke have further influenced my practice. By exploring and reimagining these artworks in a three-dimensional space, the aim is to fit them within a contemporary Fine Art context. Sacred geometry and everything rooted and unrooted in nature are ever-present sources of inspiration for me. My broad practice spanning drawing, collage, painting, sculpture, and installation, is centered around the use of recycled and repurposed materials.
