As an artist, I find it difficult to fully separate my perception of the world from what I create. My many viewpoints heavily color and reflect themselves in my work. As a queer, ex-Christian, individual my work relates heavily to my identities and experiences. Central to my artistic exploration are the topics of religion and power as they intersect with concepts of identity. I am invested in creating safe spaces through my artwork while redefining the concept of sacredness. While I primarily work through the medium of oil painting, my practice as a painter is heavily influenced by a diverse array of mediums, including performance art, fiber art, and drawing. I integrate traditionally feminine handicrafts, such as embroidery and beadwork, into my pieces, engaging the viewer in a dialogue about the value of art practices associated with femininity. Found objects in my embroidery work serve to evoke intimacy and form connections with my audience, fostering a shared sense of vulnerability. I believe art to be inherently subversive and actively pursue that quality in my work. Through my art, I attempt to question and criticize the institutions of our society. My visual narrative challenges preconceived notions and dismantles the rigid structures that once confined both my spirituality and my identity. Art, for me, is not merely an act of creation; it is also an act of restoration. It has been instrumental in the discovery of my own identity, and my works are a step in my growth as an artist and an individual.
