My artistic practice has developed based on reflective experiences within the ever - romanticised, patchwork fields of the rural Irish landscape. I find inspiration in the uncanny nature of everyday nuances that define rural Ireland's visual culture. Through my practice, I aim to challenge conventional perceptions of rural Ireland's visual identity, reinventing idealised notions to reveal the intricacies that lie within the ordinary. Bent gates, traffic cones, road signs, and other seemingly insignificant details take centre stage in my work, each creating their own narrative and contributing to the unique character of the rural areas they inhabit. My artistic style is a reflection of this dichotomy, drawing influence from the patchwork fields that characterise Ireland's rural lands. Through this patchwork – style of painting, I intend to capture the essence and identity of this vast landscape, by gathering together fragments of everyday life. Ultimately, my painting practice is a journey of exploration into a very narrow path of Ireland’s visual culture which I hope provokes contemplation and evokes a deeper connection to rural life in Ireland, by challenging notions of the sublime and noticing the homely familiarity of these normalities that shape our rural landscape.
