My focus for this project was to create a series of environment paintings of ordinary life. My belief is that when we examine the mundane through an artistic lens, it can be transformed, adding meaning and value to something that otherwise would have been overlooked. The ordinary aspects of our lives surrounds us daily in the form of tasks completed or surroundings unnoticed. Edward Hopper’s ability to force the viewer to complete the narratives of his paintings is the most notable reason why his work became the main inspiration for this project. By means of these background images, I hope to provide a glimpse into the world of an unknown character, and perhaps evoke in the viewer a desire to appreciate their own banal moments.
