I am a Generation X artist based in rural Donegal. The principles of regenerative sustainability, permaculture and embodied practices such as authentic movement and deep listening influence my work. My process is grounded in pragmatic philosophy, and informed by spiritual and existential curiosities. I seek to establish nuanced meta-views of why things are the way they are, and to activate a dialogue of critical awareness. I frequently combine natural and man-made objects to explore the beliefs, myths and ideologies that we live by, both personally and socially imposed, their effect on us and how they operate through us to create our social world. Working in installation, sculpture, film and photography, my intention is to move people from a cognitive space into a direct embodied experience of increased presence and awareness - the art happens in the viewer-participant. I aim to create multisensory interactions that encourage the audience to slow down in response, thereby facilitating a deeper experience through their embodied sensory engagement. This increased presence nurtures an invitation to open to a personal authentic response beyond conditioning.
