Graphite has been the medium i have used for most of my creative practice. I am inspired by black and white film and photography, so the idea of graphite made sense to me on an emotional level. Working with graphite pencil, I create work that mixes the surreal, with the hyperreal. I like hyperreal for the detail, but the surreal visuals is something i am intrigued most by. My work shows the first hand experiences of growing up in my hometown of Wexford, typically by showing locations, and people. My techniques often show people with their faces covered as a symbolic representation of their emotions and feelings, and location based works to show the nostalgic feelings i have with the area.
