Moving Forward, Looking Backward.Sam DalyI was inspired to create this collection while Interrailing through Europe. The railway station serves as a gateway for discovery as it crosses over national and city borders and mingles cultures. Train stations are intricate locations filled with patterns made by the rails, dangling cables, and signage. I have focused on linear travelling patterns, composed of continuous crossing lines. The components of the stations have had a big impact on my collection. The style of the collection is bold and graphic. Creating a surface through a range of processes such as upscaled distorted weft, smocking knit and passementerie. Colour played a key role in my design process. Robust fabrics for multiple uses such as bags, interior products and furnishings. Deadstock yarns and slow processes play important roles in the creative process. I have explored techniques for strengthening waste yarns to create a long lasting product that is designed for circularity.
