I am a contemporary Irish visual artist based in Dublin, with a wide range of creative interests and skills. As a fine art media student at the National College of Art and Design, my work spans film and video, photography, painting, installation, and sculpture. My art reflects my introspective thoughts and personal experiences, exploring the fundamentals of existence and inviting viewers to engage with my creations. Recently, I showcased my piece 'Phosphenic Languages' at the NCAD Works 2024 graduate exhibition. This work highlights my exploration of identity through encounters with both the tangible and intangible. 'Phosphenic Languages' investigates the significance of light, movement, sound, and their interconnected relationship with the body and the spaces we inhabit. Moving from digital work to hands-on engagement with physical materials has sparked new creativity, inspiring me to delve deeper into sculptural art. Light plays a crucial role in my practice, influencing perception and expression through shadows and refractions. This fascination with light led me to explore phosphenes, an abstract form of light perception. Phosphenes, visual phenomena where light is seen within the brain without external illumination, appear as mesmerizing patterns and geometric forms. By incorporating phosphenes, I delve into the mysteries of perception and consciousness, challenging conventional notions of visual experience and encouraging contemplation on the boundaries between reality and illusion. Additionally, my work incorporates the study of cymatics, both audibly and visually. By exploring how sound frequencies create visual patterns, I aim to create immersive experiences that highlight the interconnectedness of sensory perception and the subtleties of human experience. The visual similarities between phosphenes and cymatics provide insights into the dialogue between art and science and the evolving relationship between human perception and the external world. Driven by curiosity and a desire to unravel the mysteries of sensory phenomena, I strive to engage viewers on a sensory level, provoking contemplation and introspection on the boundaries between reality and illusion, the seen and the unseen.
