Everyone has experienced the death of a loved one. My work creates a permanent reminder of them and a way of keeping their memory alive for years to come. Today there is a lack of emotional or sentimental value shown towards family history and heirlooms, especially in younger generations. With years worth of heirlooms comes years worth of stories- many of which are often undocumented causing the history of the heirloom and its previous owners to cease to exist. My work is inspired by heirloom and heritage preservation. I strongly believe that objects have a power in connecting us to our loved ones who have passed away, that they are the tangible evidence of their existence. I create memorable and meaningful pieces of furniture and accompanying ceramic products that tell a unique family story by showcasing the memories of loved ones and the items they once owned.
