My work explores and examines ideas around the body, encompassing physical, psychological, emotional connections between bodies and their markings. In particular, there is an emphasis placed on birthmarks and bruising. I utilise many experimental practices and processes including staining, bleaching, tearing, gluing, folding, and stretching prior to the utilization of any paint. My renderings turn the familiarity of the body into something unfamiliar.Lens based media and digital formats form part of the early initial stages my working methods which also include collage and experimental material alterations. I rework personal imagery and motifs such as bruising, cuts and birthmarks. The collage of photo and material forms are integral to my entire body of work and attempt to portray the many different senses and experiences our body contains and occupies. Through these various processes which I employ, I create rich tapestries that invite viewers to delve into the works corporeal existence. The forms are then transformed and submerged into large scale paintings. As my work progresses, I am continually informed and influenced by the presence of prior works in my studio.
