My work for my Masters Research project conveys domestic spaces that are interrupted by the tropes of fantasy and its narratives. These visual interjections occur through the use of imagery that is clearly associated with the female protagonist. Objects of desire and scenes of enchantment hark back to an innocence and wonder of girlhood within the paintings. The use of paint is influenced by the observation of colour in film and the saturation of light from projected images, borrowing from montage and allowing for familiar imagery of the make-believe to appear unexpectedly within the domestic space. Projection and collage are enacted during the painting process to blend the boundaries between what is present in reality and the creation of the painted imaginative space. This series of paintings aims to invite the viewer into a rediscovery of lost magic through its re-enchantment of reality.
