I am a Romanian-born artist based in Navan, Co. Meath. Raised in Romania for the first 8 years of my life, I immigrated to Ireland in 2009, but I've always kept a tether between my identity and the city I grew up in, Bucharest. My work is often based on how integrated I feel within Irish society, as well as the strained relationship I have with my country of origin. A major point of inspiration for my art comes in the form of works by well-known Romanian poets and authors, Romanian folklore, and traditional Romanian rituals to highlight my experience with cultural dislocation. I also touch on the topic of one’s own physical existence; how it can deeply affect one’s psyche and how they perceive themselves. My ongoing practice is searching for what it means to be stuck between two cultures, two societies, two countries.
