I am an abstract artist whose work is expressive and influenced by my daily experiences. I'm drawn to abstraction as it allows me to focus on the experience of creating rather than the final outcome. My work is an intuitive and spontaneous response to my immediate environment and things in close proximity to me. I also delve into personal memories and feelings as I make my work.My work is process-based. The experience of creating is just as important as the final outcome. It can’t feel stiff or still. It’s about movement and gesture, mark-making, and allowing that energy to come through. I create various marks using my body to express myself. Different motions of the body, speed, and movement can create different marks. Working in layers allows me to step back from the canvas and see it. This is where an element of control comes into my work, it’s not purely chance.Being able to evoke a feeling or an emotion from a viewer is something that intrigues me, the fact that everyone responds differently. I like having an intimate connection to my work, ie. emotion or memory. This is particularly important when titling my work - that personal connection between the painting and I.
