With the support of the Cavan Arts Office and the Irish Countrywomen’s Association, Belfast-born artist Rita Duffy’s exhibition ‘The Souvenir Shop’ shows at 13 North Great Georges Street close to the site of Thomas Clarke’s tobacconist on Parnell Street. Drawing on the notion of Clarke’s shop as a place of exchange and ideas, visitors to this exhibition can buy surreal, provocative art works such as Rebel Razor Close Shave Cream, Rise Up Baking Soda and Black and Tan Boot Polish. Duffy highlights the unrealized ambitions of the 1916 Republic and raises question about the impact of World War I, the Catholic Church and the Troubles.
