George Victor Du Noyer recorded the antiquarian and archaeological sites of Ireland, and 2017 marks the 200th anniversary of his birth in Dublin. Employed by the Geological Survey of Ireland, Du Noyer travelled Ireland, sketching and recording as he went. The Du Noyer Photographic Competition, run by the GSI in conjunction with the Irish Geological Association, has a prize fund of €1,000 for images of geological interest taken either in Ireland or overseas. In addition, the Du Noyer Fine Art Award for Painting, Printmaking, or Sculpture will accept digital proposals for two or three dimensional sculptures, paintings or prints in any medium. The closing date for applications is 22 September, details on the GSI website. (see our article on Du Noyer, p. 134)
