Joaquín Sorolla (1863–1923) is referred to as the ‘master of light’ and Spain’s impressionist. The National Gallery of Ireland shows fifty of his paintings in the first exhibition of his work in Ireland in collaboration with the National Gallery in London and the Museo Sorolla in Madrid. Sorolla’s early works established a reputation as a social realist with scenes of social deprivation. Later, his main subject became the Spanish landscape, sun-drenched scenes of elegant everyday life.
