At the National Gallery of Ireland, ‘Glamour and Governance’ is the first complete display of the gallery’s collection of portraits of 16th-century historical figures, from politicians to soldiers, royal suitors to adventurers. Drawn from the national collections, the portraits highlight the role of self-promotion, through costume and fashion, at the Elizabethan court and include images of Elizabeth I and her lover Robert Dudley; Sir Walter Raleigh and his wife, Lady Raleigh; and the Earl of Ormond.
