The exhibition ‘Friends and Relations: Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, Frank Auerbach, Michael Andrews’ at the Gagosian Gallery, features forty key works by these four era-defining artists from private and public collections. Portraiture was at the heart of each artist’s practice, and the intense friendship between Freud and Bacon is referenced in the latter’s 1966 work Three Studies for Portraits: Isabel Rawsthorne, Lucian Freud and J.H.
