Tom McLean caught the imagination of our readers in our 8 under 40 feature: here Una Sealy meets the emerging artist making a name for himself
Born in 1994, and originally from Stradbally, Co Laois, figurative painter Tom McLean lives and works in Galway (Fig 3). He graduated from CCAM GMIT in 2016 with an honours degree in Fine Art, and is now studying part-time in the RHA School, Dublin. Since graduating he has exhibited in the National Gallery of Ireland as part of the Hennessy Portrait Prize exhibition 2016, and has been included in the RHA and RUA annual exhibitions. This year he was the recipient of the Whyte’s Award at the RHA. He is represented by the Chimera Gallery, Mullingar and his work is in private collections in Ireland and abroad.
