The Hamilton Field Book of Hours, a 15th-century illuminated manuscript, is on show at the Chester Beatty. A book of hours is a devotional text of a kind popular between the 13th and 16th centuries. This example includes full-page calendar illustrations as well as scenes devoted to agricultural activities such as harvest, winemaking and sowing and the leisure activities of the wealthy, as well as borders depicting roses, strawberries and columbines.
