At the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, ‘Vernissage’ is a selection of paintings and works on paper by the artist, Micheal Farrell. One of the key Irish artists of his generation, he moved to Paris in 1971 but his native country influenced all his later work as indicated by the provocative ‘Madonna Irlanda’ series of paintings in 1977. His acerbic wit and subversive views on Irish history is much in evidence in this exhibition. Also at the centre, artist-in-residence Ruth O’Donnell holds an open studio to show her works in progress – an extended series of studies of ceramics in Parisian museums. O’Donnell is primarily a printmaker specializing in etching, monotype and carborundum prints and has been an active member of Graphic Studio Dublin since 1991.
