Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon, Co Clare showcases work by two contrasting artists in the coming weeks. Colour, mood and composition are central to Ailbhe Barrett’s ongoing works, as is the conjunction between them. Silhouettes and human shapes are juxtaposed against the fluid colours of the skyscape – both comforting and threatening. Joan Sugrue’s work, on the other hand, considers our perception of space, place and time. She primarily uses drawing and paint as a medium for her work, but also includes other visual media including video and installation. Her forthcoming exhibition includes innovative work using early glass plate negative images.
