The new criminal court house in Cork unequivocally affirms the traditional role of court buildings to make an exemplary public statement, writes Judith Hill
The new Cork Criminal Court House has won this year’s RIAI Innovation Award. The work, which involved building a substantial four-storey extension to the rear of the old district court – the former model school – has created a court house of distinction that has simultaneously revived a Victorian building and introduced a contemporary structure into the streets of Cork.
