Emer McGarry selects Study with a Piece Cut Out by Michael Farrell, on view at The Model, Sligo
Michael Farrell was born in Kells, Co Meath in 1940, though he was to spend the majority of his life outside Ireland – first as a boarder at Ampleforth College, York, and later as a student of art at St Martin’s School of Art, London, and at Colchester School of Art. In 1971 he settled in France and, while he was never to return to live permanently in Ireland, he remained politically, culturally and artistically engaged with the country of his birth throughout his career.
