The procedure for the Leaving Certificate Art practical examination underwent some changes for the Leaving Certificate class of 2018. Previously, students chose either Design or Craftwork and either Still Life or Imaginative Composition and the examination was held over two days, with separate examination papers for each component being distributed by the SEC two weeks in advance of the examination. Creating a finished piece of artwork from scratch within two, 2.5 hour examinations (5 hours for Craftwork) on the day of the examination was a highly pressurised situation for Art students, and indeed for teachers alike.
