Peter Murray discovers that nature, culture and science intersect in the work of George Bolster
Over a relatively short period, George Bolster has forged a remarkable career as a contemporary visual artist. Following exhibitions at galleries and museums as diverse as Chung King Project in Los Angeles, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris and the RULE Gallery in Marfa, Texas, an exhibition of his work, ‘Communication: We Are Not the Only Ones Talking’, is forthcoming at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen. The title gives a clue to the theme: the ability of whales to communicate through sound, using language and syntax. With whale-watching in West Cork now a popular activity, the exhibition is timely.
