A delight in capturing plants, particularly flowering plants, and recording them for posterity has been a consistent source of inspiration for botanical artists. Despite the rise in popularity of photography, there has been a renaissance in this highly specialised field, as can be seen in the work of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists. Botanical art is unique in drawing together both scientific accuracy and artistic sensibility, and true practitioners are highly skilled in both.
