Five leading Irish ceramic artists have been invited to contribute a piece of their work to the new Irish Contemporary Ceramics Collection, a joint initiative between LIT Limerick School of Art and Design and the Hunt Museum, Limerick. The first phase of the project will comprise the work of five artists. Jack Doherty and Sara Flynn, both of whom explore the vessel form in very different directions: Flynn with consummate levels of control and Doherty with an increasing sense of having left the constrictions of studio pottery behind. Claire Curneen is unusual among Irish ceramic artists in that her work is clearly figurative, while Frances Lambe‘s abstract sculptures are subtly adventurous exploration of hidden aspects of the natural world. Henry Pim‘s ceramic grid sculptures reflect the way that information is gathered and processed. ‘Waypoint’ a multi-site exhibition of contemporary soda-fired ceramic vessels by Jack Doherty continues at the New Craftsman Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall, from September to 9 October. During the St Ives Festival, 12- 27 September, an element of the work will be presented in St Leonards Chapel on the harbour; St Nicholas Chapel on the island; and Rose Lodge on the wharf.
