Peter Pearson outlines the history of Dublin’s Drimnagh Castle, where he has spear-headed the restoration for nearly four decades
Drimnagh Castle, located off the Long Mile Road, could be described as a forgotten gem of Dublin’s built heritage. Though it is well known to local people and determined visitors from abroad, it is less widely known among the general public. Perhaps this is because it is somewhat hidden from the road, but also because it was restored and managed by voluntary interests rather than by the state. Its importance as a monument, not just locally but nationally, is undisputed and it is a most attractive and romantic building, even in its semi-industrial setting in school playing fields.
