Early in December last year, I met recent graduate artist Freida Breen for an unconventional studio visit over zoom. Breen completed a BA in Sculpture and Combined Media at Limerick School of Art in 2020. The artist was recently shortlisted for the prestigious RDS Visual Arts Graduate Awards and is a recipient of the National Sculpture Factory Graduate Residency Award 2020. Breen was interested in art from a young age, but conservative schooling initially steered her away from art college. She first did an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Social Policy and worked in social care before completing an MA in Art Therapy at the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork in 2012.
